Non-GMO Foods Part 1

One of the first things I did on my path to wellness was to quit eating genetically modified foods. The only thing that went into my shopping cart were organic or non-GMO foods. And when I was able to get off all my prescription medications after eating right, and also flushing years of this accumulated waste out my system, I truly understood the importance of doing so.  I'm healing from a diagnosis medical science said only stem cells could only cure.

I'm currently looking at a business opportunity that only uses non-GMO foods, so I decided to look on YouTube to see if I could find any interesting and educational video's about this subject. I happened upon a documentary entitled, "The World According to Monsanto". Oh my God. I could not believe what I was seeing. It is a must watch. I found myself taking notes during each segment as I wanted to truly "get it", to be able to share the information intelligently with others.

I decided to post each segment of the documentary here on my blog, along with a follow up of the notes I took and corroberating research I did along with it.  French journalist and film maker Marie-Monique Robin started doing intensive internet research for a period of over four months examining scientific studies, declassified documents, leaked internal files, articles, and first hand accounts of whistleblowers covering the genetic engineering being done on foods by Monsanto.  Altering food, they actually break the natural gene barrier that has separated species over millions of years for their new products, and then patent these new seed creations.   Farmers are then legally bound not to save seeds for replanting for the following year, as every year thereafter they must buy any new seeds from Monsanto.

On March 11, 2008, Ms. Robin's documentary "The World According to Monsanto" was aired on French television.  She not only collected internet material for her documentary, she then traveled directly to the sources and conducted interviews with the people she cited (both pro and anti-Monsanto).   With facts in hand, she nails the liars armed with truth.  It is an amazing thing to witness; however, the danger is still here and growing worse with every passing day. You will be shocked at what is happening to crops around the world.  We may wind up with food that is no longer fit for consumption, and crop fields that are incapable of growing anything else.   After you watch this film you will understand why.  Let's get started.
 
The World According to Monsanto part 1 of 10

"On it's website, Monsanto positions itself as an agricultural company that aims to help farmers produce healthier food, while reducing agriculture's impact on our environment.  Monsanto's GMO's have invaded the planet, but no AG industry product in history has ever incited as much controversy and passion.  Why?  What's at stake with GMO's?  And could the company's past shed some light on what the company is, or claims to be today?   Founded in St. Louis, Missori, in 1901, it was not always an agricultural company.  It was one of the largest chemical companies of the 20th century." 

Monsanto is responsible for the creation of Agent Orange (used during the Vietnam War), Aspartame, Bovine Growth Hormone, Polystyrene, PCBs, and GE crops (genetically-engineered).  Monsanto's PCBs also have a lethal legacy.  Robin interviews individuals in Anniston, Alabama, who suffered serious health affects from the nearby PCB production plant, "Monsanto Row".   Monsanto got permission to bury PCB's in Anniston, however, the state of Alabama neglected to tell its towns people.  An environmental organization in Washington DC, headed by Ken Cook, has put internal classified files online.

Many diseases are caused by PCB exposure, the number one disease being cancer.  Women that get pregnant who have PCB's  in their body will have a child with a lower IQ.  It also causes low thyroid and hormone disruption.  Monsanto's leading product is Roundup, the world's best selling herbacide for the last 30 years.  Roundup was introduced in 1974.  Due to its claims of being biodegradable, and that the product ‘leaves the soil clean and respects the environment’ played a huge role in the success of this product.  Monsanto was found guilty of false advertising twice for this claim, and has since removed the word 'biodegradable' from its labels. 

"Roundup's toxicity was hidden to protect the development of GMO's.  So let's go back to the creation of GMO's.  According to Monsanto's site, Roundup Ready Soybeans introduced in1996 were the first bioengineered crop to be approved in the United States.  Farmers using these seeds belong to the American Soybean Assoication, whose address is on Monsanto's website.   How do soybean plant cells survive being sprayed with Roundup?  The core of a soybean cell contains it DNA, where the soybean's genetic structure is encoded.  In order to create its GMO, Monsanto breaks the species barrier using a Roundup resistant gene harvested from a bacterium. This gene is placed on microscopic particles of gold, which are fired into the soybean's cells with a gene gun. The gene penetrates the DNA and creates a protein, making the plant resistant to Roundup.

When the herbicide Roundup is sprayed on the crop it kills all the weeds, leaving the soybean plants intact. It is an incredible technological feat, but these soybeans engineered to withstand such a powerful herbicide are destined for our dinner plates. They must have been tested thoroughly before being put on the market, right?  Who was the tree of agriculture at this time? Dan Glickman.  Bill Clinton's agricultural secretary from 1995 to 2000."

Michael Taylor has worked as a lawyer for Monsanto, and also for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).  There he had great influence on the legalization of the genetically modified bovine growth hormone (rBGH).  It also became FDA policy during Taylor’s tenure that GM seeds were declared to be “substantially equivalent to non-GM seeds."   This negated the need of any real proof of GMO's being considered harmful. A typical example of ‘the revolving door policy’, where Mr. Taylor is now head of the Washington, D.C. office of Monsanto Corporation.

And through another revolving door, Roger Beachy recently joined the Obama administration. His last job before joining the USDA was as founding president of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, a non-profit research institute co-founded by Monsanto and the Danforth Foundation. He says we’ll have to start farming parks, forests and golf courses if we don’t switch to biotech, when he recently told Smartplanet.com that biotechnology is needed to maximize food production and reduce the use of agrochemicals. "With a greater number of people," he said, "we’re going to have to have more crop per acre. If we don’t, we’ll have to expand [agriculture] to our parks, forests, and golf courses." For a more thorough look at who's coming and going through these doors, have a look at the website CombatMonsanto.co.uk. And they're even trying to come through the same door.
