Energy Saving Tip

I recently attended a course on how to green your home. Out of all methods developed to help save energy, there was one energy saving tip that was said to make all the difference!

That it was so effective, most people wouldn’t even need to install solar power with use of this energy saving tip!  That the costs of heating and air conditioning would go down dramatically as well!  And that this energy saving tip was one of the most inexpensive energy saving methods ever developed!

So what is this miraculous energy saving tip?

Insulate the light switches and electrical outlets in your home!!!

And it’s easy to do! Go to your local hardware store and ask what where the Outlet Sealers are located.  If you don’t have a screwdriver, you’ll need to pick up one of those too.  Most homes have the single and double  light switch base plates, or the more modern larger square switch base plates.  You can find sealers made for these types of outlets too, or you can also cut them to size.

You want to plan on buying enough outlet sealers for the the outside walls of your home.  That’s where the cold and hot air seeps through.  And if the outlet base plates in your home are old, they also crack easily.  So when insulating the outlet over your kitchen sink, plug the drainage mechanism or put a towel over it so you don’t lose that little screw that pops off with the old cracked base plate!
